Despite equality, or rather because of equality, one must not forget that the female organism and physique differ significantly from that of the man. Our article on back pain and lower back pain in women is intended to point out these differences, precisely because most women today have to "stand up for their mates" in their jobs.
Relationship between back pain and diseases
Back pain is often misinterpreted by women and assigned to the abdominal organs. It can be extremely difficult for the doctor to determine the cause. How often do you hear from general practitioners in the consultation hours that back pain and lower back pain hurt. For this reason alone, many women see a gynecologist (gynecologist). The doctor will always appreciate it if you come to him with your complaints, before you delay your suffering or try to alleviate it yourself with painkillers, rubs, inappropriate baths and the like. First and foremost, it is important to rule out serious disease processes and to determine the causes of the complaints.
But gynecologists confirm that only about half of all women who complain of lower back pain have a lower abdomen. And what about the rest of them? They will ask. If back pain and lower back pain occur, a medical examination must first be carried out and the findings, in accordance with the scientific status of our examination methods, clarified to the extent that a promising treatment can be initiated. No organ can be regarded as an existing structure, at least not with regard to its functions and the effects of a disease process on the rest of the body.
Back pain as a symptom
All diseases that take place in the small pelvis cause irritation of the nerves. Depending on the organ primarily affected, the first symptom may be back pain or lower back pain. This also applies to diseases of individual sections of the intestine or urinary organs as well as to inflammatory, chronically damaging or destructive effects on the skeletal parts and the tissues connected to them in this area. Back pain is often misinterpreted by women and assigned to the abdominal organs. It can be extremely difficult for the doctor to determine the cause.
In young girls who have only recently started their careers, back pain is sometimes erroneously attributed to a physical change. In older patients with normal gastrointestinal findings, it is usually interpreted as spondylosis, which is often present without having to be the cause of the symptoms.
In general, the bony skeleton of women is less strong and robust than that of men. The woman's lumbar spine shows a greater curvature forwards, a so-called lordosis.

Physique & resilience for back pain
In the case of back pain, it is important to strengthen the constitutionally poorly developed muscles or those that have become weak in later years of life. The bony female pelvis has a broadly tapering shape with flat iliac blades and low pubic bone blades and low pubic symphysis, creating a wide pelvic canal.
This specific body structure is tailored to the particular performance of women, namely pregnancies and births. The anatomical conditions therefore require a lower load capacity for heavy physical work. That is why pregnant women in Germany enjoy appropriate legal protection, which also extends to their work at work.
Our body not only has to bear its own weight, but must also be able to cope with many stresses. The lumbar region is of great importance as a support for the body in the face of various loads. The ligaments and ligaments that hold the individual bone parts together are subject to changes in strength every month due to hormonal influences, especially in the area of the small pelvis.
The tissue connections are particularly relaxed during pregnancy. In the case of pregnant women, the already existing spinal cord in the lumbar region increases when the body's center of gravity is shifted. In order to keep the body upright, the back muscles must be tightly tensed. This constant muscle overstimulation very often leads to back pain or lower back pain.
Prevent back pain
Relatively often, people also complain of back pain, which after a detailed examination and assessment of their body structure must be interpreted as muscle pain.It mainly affects slim, delicate young girls with untrained muscles. Activities that require a constant working posture can also lead to back pain if the forced posture exceeds the capabilities of the muscles.
What can be done to eliminate or prevent this back pain? We all know that a well-trained body has strong, developed muscles. It is therefore important to strengthen the constitutionally poorly developed muscles or those that have become weak in later years of life.
Through gymnastic exercises and light fitness or weight training not only a general strengthening of the entire body muscles is achieved, but also better blood circulation, which in turn has a positive effect on the elimination of unusable or toxic metabolic products.
Sport & gymnastics against back pain
With back pain, it is up to you to regain your performance and well-being through changes in the workplace and compensatory movement and sporting activity. You should therefore try to strengthen the underperforming muscle groups in particular. These can be abs if they have become flaccid or have been stretched through multiple births.
Muscle groups of the back muscles or the pelvic floor can also be strengthened. However, if the back pain is caused by a forced posture during work, it is precisely these tense muscle groups that need to be relieved.
Here, too, a properly conducted health sport or compensatory gymnastics must begin. The success of daily exercise can often only be felt after months. If the symptoms persist, a consultation with a doctor is recommended.
Particular attention must be paid to the workplace itself, which in many companies is still tailored to the body shape of the man. This applies to office chairs, for example. On average, women are around 7 percent shorter than men. If you sit in an unphysiological posture, you cannot reach the floor with your feet. Circulatory disorders of the thigh muscles occur and with them a number of complaints that could be avoided by simply redesigning the workplace.
The same applies to the height of the desk, to the grip area of many machines, to an often inexpedient and unphysiological viewing position which constantly requires a slightly stooped posture and much more.
Other causes of back pain
The spine is supported by ligaments and intervertebral discs, but is largely carried by the muscles. Therefore muscle fatigue plays a special role. Since the abdominal and back muscles are heavily used during pregnancy, it is important to train the muscles during this time through appropriate exercise and thus counteract back pain. If, however, there is a diastasis rectus, i.e. the anterior abdominal muscles softening, additional orthopedic-surgical measures are required.
Often, back pain and lower back pain are also caused by a sagging body. When you breathe, there is normally a suction that grips the organs and the pelvic floor. In the hanging body, the weight of the abdominal cavity remains on the pelvic floor, the back muscles are weakened and the pelvic floor damaged, or existing damage is aggravated. Back pain is then inevitable. A balanced posture is achieved, which in turn leads to an increased lumbar vertebral column.
So we see that back pain can have very different causes. To a large extent, however, they are triggered by relaxation of the abdominal muscles, back muscles and pelvic floor muscles or by incorrect work posture. Here it is up to the women themselves to regain their productivity and well-being through changes in the workplace and compensatory movement and sporting activity.

➔ Medicines for back painWhen should you go to the doctor?
Back problems can occur more frequently during pregnancy due to hormonal changes and the additional weight load caused by the unborn child. Occasional pain is not unnatural, but a doctor should always be consulted if the stress is intense. Acute pain usually reacts to treatment with heat, ointments or massages. If all measures do not help, there is a risk of the symptoms becoming manifest. As a result, unnecessarily delaying an examination makes successful therapy more difficult.
In addition, there is a suspicion of a serious illness or malalignment in the case of tingling or numbness in the extremities. Functional disturbances in emptying the bladder or bowel indicate an emergency. Often, however, other reasons are hidden behind the back pain. Recurring problems in the spinal area are an important indicator for medical clarification. An injury or narrowing of a spinal canal can permanently affect the nerves. If the mobility of those affected is significantly restricted and the pain is almost unbearable, there may be a herniated disc and urgent clarification is required.
At the same time, severe pain in the back area in combination with other symptoms of the disease are considered to be potentially dangerous. Occurrence with a fever or even severe weight loss are a serious alarm signal and possibly indicate an inflammatory process in the spine. Continuous psychological stress also affects the backbone.
Persistent stress at work and depressive tendencies result in an unconsciously harmful posture when sitting. Furthermore, depression has a considerable influence on the work of one's own body defenses. Depression influences the perception of pain and subjectively promotes the degree of stress felt by those affected. A visit to the doctor to clarify and carry out psychotherapeutic treatment is in principle advisable in the event of a permanently bad mood even without back problems.
