On Sylt, Usedom, Rügen and wherever the sea or the lake invites you to swim, so-called playboys stalk through the area in the finest restaurants. Today you can also meet their summer-spoiled offshoots, the beach lions, while stalking through the rugged beach landscape. They do this either alone or, if the specimens are very young, in small but more conspicuous groups.
Bodybuilders & Playboys on the Beach
Depending on the age, muscles require differentiated and regular physical activity, which of course takes time, patience and, above all, sweat. From their ancestors, the said playboys, they still kept the sleek walk and the mostly stylish hairstyle, but otherwise their appearance has undergone a profound change. All that remains of the dodgy suit is the short swim shorts - if at all - and instead of a flower in the buttonhole, an idiosyncratic upper body construction is clearly deceived: Huge chest muscles dominate the scene, massive flesh lies on shoulders like solidified egg bulbs, and biceps muscles grow to sizes That the layman can only be amazed and the expert amazed.
The ups and downs of the peculiar anatomy are played around by the reflections of the summer sun, as if the wearer had just sprung from a nut oil bath. When the muscle man or bodybuilder pensively folds his hands or crosses his arms with his stomach pulled in and his chest stretched, then the moment has come when even sporty observers consider themselves in need of development and medical students can still learn something.
The bodybuilders are now beginning to roll and shake under the oil skin, new elevations rise where no one expects them, the lateral chest wall turns into a herringbone pattern, and the skin seems too tight on the biceps hill. Then the holiday guest turns in horror, and some people who are less well padded may secretly begin their first strength exercises behind the next dune.
Now it could be that one or the other of our readers shouted: "Off to Sylt!" immediately starts packing your suitcase. Understandable, since you rarely find such a wonderful sandy beach as on our coasts. However, if you have only discovered the special charm of our North and Baltic seaside resorts through these lines, you can confidently unpack your suitcase. Because muscle men with such anatomical features are rare here and therefore difficult to find.
What are muscles used for?
More often, however, it seems to me, is the young Tarzan type who, through their posture, gait and behavior, leaves no doubt that masculinity has to be proven by the amount of muscle mass. And who has something against muscles? But at most the one who doesn't have one.
Muscles are used for movement and mobility. If you have enough energy, you can try this on yourself. However, not every type of movement is equally important for the muscles. Movement when driving a car, for example, comes about through the combustion of a gasoline-air mixture and has nothing to do with explosive muscle strength.
Movement and mobility can be combined in the muscle with strength, endurance and speed. Unfortunately, these characteristics do not come by chance, they have to be acquired purposefully.
Depending on age, they require differentiated and regular physical activity, which of course takes time, patience and, above all, sweat. But they also give you the awareness that you always have enough power reserves for all the stresses of everyday life. Certainly a nice feeling, but no one will come up with the idea of showing themselves as a health protector. Now you can also create muscles that are of no use other than to be admired. For performances that require endurance and speed, they are just as unsuitable as paper muscles, and their development of strength is comparatively low, despite their enormous volume.

Because an increase in performance is always the result of consistent training of all organ systems, not just the muscles. The heart, circulation, breathing, metabolism, nervous system, to name just a few, are all involved in this in the same way and therefore also require regular exercise. Under normal professional conditions, people do not have to use more than twenty percent of their total strength, so eighty percent are available to them as reserve forces. Part of it can be used without a great effort of will, while the other part can only be used with the use of considerable volitional impulses in the context of appropriate training.
The muscleman or bodybuilder cares little. For him it only depends on the external form. Skilled language creators have therefore found the fine word form sports (isometric training) for the method that promises to create an athletic miracle out of the measly chicken breast. This is understood to mean isometric strength training in which the highest possible muscle tension is produced against a resistance. The muscle load is therefore carried out without movement. Incidentally, the exercises are not an invention of bodybuilding, but have long been known as part of high-performance sports training.
Since the bodybuilders raised the tension exercises to an end in themselves and thus isolated them from the rest of the athletic training, they only ever succeed in imitating a sporty figure that appears strange to the normal viewer. And yet, the realization that the world consists not only of lines but also of curves seems to have changed in some minds the ideal physical image not only of women, but also that of men or those who want to become one.
