As Mother Child cure is a special form of inpatient medical care or rehabilitation. But it does not only apply to mothers, but also to fathers.
When the burden becomes too much
In the Mother Child cure, also father-child cure or short Mukiku called, it is a special cure that is part of medical prevention and rehabilitation. It is an offer for mothers and fathers who are overworked or sick. In some cases, the child may also need treatment so that they can accompany their parents to the cure and also receive therapeutic measures.
Originally, the mother-child cure was aimed exclusively at the mothers of children. In 2002 the offer was also extended to fathers. In most cases, however, only the mothers and their children take part in the cure. A mother-child cure is used when the mother is exposed to such high stress while raising her child or children that she hardly finds time for important breaks.
If the daily stress becomes too intense over time, there is a risk that the mother will eventually fall ill. The mother-child cure, however, shows the mother ways in which she can cope better with everyday life.
Why a mother-child cure can be useful
The purpose of a mother-and-child cure is to prevent mothers from becoming ill due to heavy daily stress. However, it is not a vacation trip at the expense of health insurance companies. During their stay at the spa, mothers learn to cope with their everyday life more easily and to avoid unnecessary exertion. Medical care is also provided.
A mother's field of responsibility can now be compared to that of a family manager. So she not only has to look after the children, but also take care of the household and many other related things. If there are additional professional tasks to be performed, this doubles the stress.
As a result, the women affected hardly find time to relax. The constant stress ultimately has a negative impact on health, which can manifest itself in the form of palpitations, sleep disorders, back problems and chronic headaches.
Even a normal vacation is often not enough to regenerate. For these reasons, a mother-child cure can be very useful because it helps the mother to get away from everyday stress and to gather new strength.
Requirements & application
The legal basis for the mother-child cure is regulated by Paragraphs 24 and 41 of Book Five of the Social Code. Parents have a legal right to preventive measures in order to remedy a deterioration in their health that would lead to illness over time. It is also important to prevent diseases, to avoid their aggravation and to prevent health hazards for the child.
The first step in the mother-child cure is a visit to the doctor, who will issue a medical certificate. Together with the application, the mother then submits the certificate to the responsible health insurance company. Anyone looking for help can find it at charities and advice centers. It is also useful to include a self-help form.
In addition, the mother's situation as well as her constant daily stresses must be described. This could be, for example, a sick child or financial problems. Bringing up the child alone is another burden.
Approving the mother-and-child cure requires patience because it often takes weeks or months to complete. If the permit is finally given, the special treatment can be tackled. The financing is taken over by the statutory health insurance, which applies to both the mother and her children. However, the mother has to pay a cost of ten euros per calendar day.
Duration & stay
A mother-and-child regimen usually lasts 21 days. However, the treatment can be extended upon request, provided there are medical reasons for this. The extension is then a further seven days. A new mother-child cure is only possible after four years at the earliest. Compelling medical reasons are an exception.
The mother-child cure is by no means a vacation stay. So the mother has to take an active part in the treatment. The spa clinic organizes a treatment plan that is individually tailored to the mother. The therapeutic measures mostly include physiotherapy exercises, educational or psychological discussions, nutritional advice, exercise programs and other training courses. Depending on how old the child is and what options the spa clinic offers, childcare and teaching measures for school-age children are also possible outside of the holidays.
Course concepts
Most mother-child cures follow the concept of salutogenesis. This is a holistic therapy. The treatment plan varies from mother to mother and is adapted to her individual needs. These include physiotherapy, therapeutic baths, psychological care and medical measures.
Holistic care is considered important because most illnesses are psychosomatic as a result of the daily excessive demands. In addition, specialty cures are offered that deal with single mothers, ADD / ADHD, neurodermatitis, asthma, obesity and cancer.

As a preventive measure, a mother-child cure is highly recommended. In this way, physical complaints can be reduced and the mother's health strengthened through the treatment concept, so that no healing is required in the first place. By taking active time off, the mother discovers new possibilities of how she can cope better with her everyday problems and at the same time recharges her batteries.
