Many women want bigger breasts. As our society is getting bigger and bigger, it is more and more common that overweight women in particular want smaller breasts. While slim women with small breasts can use a few tricks to cheat their bust size larger, women with large breasts can neither reduce the bust size for a short period of time nor exchange the associated back problems. What is a breast reduction?
The Breast reductionmedical term used as Breast Reduction Plastic is a surgical procedure of the (mostly female) breast, the aim of which is to reduce the skin of the breast and the mammary gland tissue.
This is done exclusively by the doctor. Breast reductions are often considered a cosmetic procedure, but it is also possible that the health insurance company will cover part or all of the costs of the operation if it is considered medically necessary, for example as a result of massive damage to the musculoskeletal system.
This is decided by appropriate experts, the health insurance companies do not have a general claim to this from their insured persons.
Function, effect & goals
Breast reductions are mainly performed on women with disproportionately large breasts. But it is also possible that overweight men who have lost a lot of weight have their sagging breasts and tissue reduced (see also: Gynecomastia (enlargement of the mammary gland in men)).
Transsexual women who undergo surgery to become a man also receive a breast reduction. This is always a surgical procedure, but there are now numerous different methods of reducing the size of the breast. The reasons for such interventions can be physical or psychological. While one patient finds her breast beautiful, but suffers from its massive weight, the other patient has more of a problem with the cosmetic appearance.
The function or the goal of the breast reduction is, depending on the initial situation, to increase the patient's well-being, to achieve an aesthetic appearance and, under certain circumstances, to eliminate physical complaints if the breast has actually already damaged the musculoskeletal system. The back, both the lower back and the neck, can be particularly affected.
A breast reduction is only carried out in Germany from the age of 18. For women, the bosom is particularly important. If it is not "perfect" or if it does not fit the body, this can be an immense psychological burden for many women. Here, too, health insurances may intervene with appropriate reports and cover costs. There is no guarantee for this, however, and all too often the patient remains at his own expense.
Risks, side effects & dangers
The risks, dangers, and side effects of one Breast reduction are quite precisely those that can occur with any operation. Breast reduction is an extensive operation that massively intervenes in the body.
Any operation can lead to bleeding, bruises, inflammation, toxic reactions, thromboses and embolisms, and every surgical procedure can be potentially fatal, even if this happens very rarely. It can also happen that the patient does not find the result as good as initially hoped after the procedure.
It is possible that the back has already been irreversibly damaged to such an extent that there is no noticeable improvement in the symptoms despite the reduction in the chest. It must always be carefully considered and discussed how sensible it is to reduce the breasts. Of course, this does not apply to transsexuals who want to get rid of their female bosom or to those patients who have lost a lot of weight. You usually feel relieved of a burden.
Even so, it should never be overlooked that this is a serious surgery that can have its risks and side effects. People who are interested in breast reduction should therefore always consult a doctor they trust and seek advice. Then there is as little fear as possible with a breast reduction and the result will be a good and satisfactory one.
