Shampoo is a hygiene product for cleaning the hair. It is used for basic cleaning and is used to remove sebum and impurities, in addition it cares for the hair according to the hair type.
What is shampoo?
Shampoo originally comes from India, where the women of the colonial rulers soon discovered it for themselves, as such a cleaning product for the hair was not yet known in Europe at that time.Shampoo is a mostly liquid care product for cleaning the hair. The most common variant of the shampoo is the liquid form, but there is also flake-shaped dry shampoo for cleaning without water.
After moistening the hair with water, the shampoo is massaged in thoroughly, should act briefly and then washed off again without leaving any residue. Shampoo removes dirt from the hair and scalp and provides the hair with basic care. Shampoo is adapted to the hair type to ensure the right kind of care.
Shampoo for dry hair has a moisturizing effect, while shampoo for oily hair soothes the scalp and thoroughly removes all sebum. A more extensive care program for the hair includes conditioner after the shampoo and possibly a hair treatment or hair mask. However, these have a purely nourishing and no longer cleaning effect on the hair.

Shapes, types & types
Shampoo differs according to the care effect and the shape. There are liquid shampoo for use with water, as well as dry shampoo in the form of shampoo flakes that can be rubbed onto a greasy base for quick relief. However, dry shampoo cannot replace regular shampoo and cannot remove the impurities.
The most common shampoos are aimed at dry, greasy and oily, brittle and fragile, colored and curly or long hair. Other shampoos are aimed at special hair colors and either intensify the natural or colored tone, offer color protection or even lighten it even further, which is particularly desirable for blonde hair. In addition to these variants, there are also shampoos for professional use, including, for example, products such as the silver shampoo, which cares on the edge, but mainly contains extracts of the silver birch against yellow tones in blonde hair.
Shampoos with a health aspect are sold in the form of shampoo against dandruff or shampoo for skin diseases of the scalp - these are particularly aimed at people with a demanding scalp, because the health of the hair also depends on their health. Many shampoos are sold with a corresponding care series, which can also be used together, as the active ingredients in the care products for the hair are often coordinated with one another.
Structure & functionality
Shampoos can have very different compositions. Almost all products today contain additional ingredients that ensure that they foam when rubbed into the scalp. Shampoos also contain cleaning substances that are also found in other cosmetic products such as shower gels. These reliably remove sebum and dirt from the hair.
Silicones can still be found in many modern shampoos, but these are problematic. They make the hair look very supple, smooth and shiny after shampooing, but they cannot be removed from the hair without leaving any residue with water alone. It takes several washes until all of the silicones in the shampoo are rinsed out of the hair. In addition, the hair should not be washed too often, as this interferes with the scalp's ability to form fat. This leads to hair greasy very quickly, which is ultimately counterproductive.
The nourishing effect of shampoos is ultimately due to the fact that the product contains nourishing herbal extracts or effective chemical components. Shampoos from the drugstore have to use lower concentrations and often work with vegetable extracts and oils. Products for professional use in the hairdressing salon, on the other hand, work with highly effective and high-dose chemical substances, the application of which belongs in the hands of an experienced professional.

Shampoo primarily has a cleaning function in hair care. It is the first care product that is massaged in after the hair has been moistened. Since the last hair wash, sebum and other dirt have collected in the hair and on the scalp. While the shampoo is being massaged in, it can take over this cleaning and at the same time let care substances soak into the hair and scalp.
Impurities are bound in the foam of the shampoo and then washed out again. While the hair should not be washed excessively often so that the scalp does not remain unprotected without its sebum layer, the hair must not be treated too rarely with shampoo, as this can also lead to hygienic problems.
Depending on your hair type, shampoo should be used every few days. Products that are used after the shampoo often only care for the hair and no longer the scalp, so the shampoo should be chosen in such a way that it is also good for the scalp. Most of the time this is already the case when the product is bought to suit the hair type, as this is crucial for the needs of the skin. Silicone-free shampoos are best; many health-conscious people also like to choose natural or plant-based shampoos to protect their skin, hair and the environment.
